Shaq Uncut

RJ # 22   1/31/12   702
I am half way done with the book called Shaq Uncut, an Autobiography. To start this off I would like to say that this is a nonfiction, meaning that it's real, it is an autobiography so the person who wrote this was Shaquille O’neal with some helpers supporting him. The topic of this story is Shaq.
This paragraph that can be found on page 110 made me realize a big lesson:
" Phil Jackson no matter what he did that made Shaq    be negative it always was for Shaquille’s  benefits."
This was meaningful to me because it showed how much Phil his coach when he played in the Lakers cared for him.”
The main idea is that Shaq grew up in a bad childhood, however he still managed to fulfill his dream and become an NBA player. This is implied. The name I would give this book is Shaq retired in a great way."
An example of a chain of events happening was he tried not to get involve with drug attics he does not have any crimes on his personal folder. I would compare Shaq to Michael Jordan because were two great players to the game of basketball and broke many records and both set goals to achieve for other players who in order to achieve tem need to work very hard.
Some strategies I used before reading this book  was to skim and scan for text features, and quotations from a dialogue, also the title page, publication page, and the opinions from from celebrities.
This story is organized by chronological order because it gave the dates of the times in his life. Another strategy I used before reading was to make a prediction.
During reading I confirmed my predictions, and I also reread some parts I had troble with finding the meaning of the words. After reading I asked myself what had happened in the story, and do a reader's journal. The author wrote this book to share the story of Shaq to the reader in a first person point of view. The essential message is that if you are good at something do not hold back from doing it. Some resources I used to check that this story was true was to go online and read some true articles about Shaquille. Some new vocab I learned was crenate .
I would relate this to my life because I had to research about Shaq and found some info.
This is related to another book called  Dr.MJ because it relates to Michael Jordan a lot. I would compare this to the world because their are many good NBA players to come.
Some supporting details in this book were that his dad was a person who left him at a early age although gave him child support. Another was that when he went to his grandparents house he would always play with his cousins and feel free because he was raised with his grandparents.
I would rate this book 10/10 up until now  because I could not put it down.
                                                          Sincerely,
                                                                 Bar Peretz

READERS JOURNAL # 21
Dear Mrs.Zrihen,
I just finished reading the book called Sports Illustrated  by many exclusive authors. Strategy I used to pick this was to figure out why I wanted to read it, so I read the title and figured out that since it was things I love which is sports makes it true, and I also before reading it skim and scanned the book for main text features. Another strategy during reading was I used  the 5 question rule which means to go to a page and check if I understood that page clearly by asking who what where when and why, and reread parts I did not understand by looking for context clues. After reading I tried to find the authors purpose for writing this book, and I asked myself what would it be like to be on the cover of the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED.  The mood that I felt with this book is curious because every time I wanted to learn more about a different player or  for example sport player of the month. The topic and the tone of this story was kind of like to teach something to the reader to get in with what is happening currently with sports around the world.
The point of view of this story is third person because of the clue words you might normally find in a third person book. The perspective of the book is unbiased because it is not supporting a  certain topic. The topic in this story is informative because you get to know what has happened in modern day sports right now. The theme is informative because it keeps you updated in  current sports that is happening today.
The supporting details in the story were factual details. If I would have to rate this book I would rate it 9 out of 10 because it had awesome facts and info..
                           Sincerely , Bar Peretz

The main idea of the article is: People want to preserve some history on the moon this main idea is stated in the article
The authors purpose for writing this article is to inform us with a opinions and examples of why we should preserve the history on the moon.
The authors perspective in this article is objective/subjective (biased) because he does not go on one specific side of the argument.
The pattern of organization of this article is argument and support he introduces the topic and gives details that would support it including other people who support it as well.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is to help the reader understand the topic of the article by using opinions from both sides and supporting them with facts for example just like a debate.
The text features included in the article are: different ink color emphasizing the topic of the sentence, quotes showing what people have said and lastly a red color ink showing when this article was made.
This article is about NASA and what they do to preserve the history on the moon and why we should  preserve the history on the moon which is a very important basic of the world and also some people explaining what the moon means to them and they use quotes to express themselves
The significance of the article is how the author cares about the moon
What I learned from this article is that preserving history on the moon and to hold such a huge thing like NASA cost a lot of money.
What I liked about the article is how the author names people and describes what they said and expresses it with facts from real life showing how he or she cares.
What I did not like about it was their was not many text features like a picture or something because when I skim and scanned it look like a basic article.
Who should read this article are people who care about the moon or want to know more about it including what it takes to preserve the history on the moon.
This article remind relates to me because how we talked in science about how much money Nasa and other people spend to do all these things in space.
This article reminds of the book Space because it talks about the moon and what it does for us
This article remind me of the world because it is part of the world in space which has to do a lot with Earth.

Readers journal # 20
I finished the book called Eleven by Patricia Reilly Giff. The first thing after I read a couple chapters I can tell you that it was a really awesome cliffhanger type  of  book. Some parts were so interesting I could have not dropped the book and simple as it was go to eat. So I would suggest this book to anybody.
A passage that came upon my interest was on page 24 it said, “Go look in that box now it might be there”.
I picked this passage Just because when reading this you can tell how intense that part of the book is and you can obviously ask Who? What? When? Why? Lastly this also says that the objective of the reader is to find out what is in the box which get you more in the book.
Some strategies I used before reading were to skim and scan for text features and to predict what was going to happen in the story. During reading I confirmed my predictions and reread parts I had trouble with understanding. When I finished I recommended it to someone and asked myself questions about the book to see if I understood what I read.
Some characters in the story are Sam, Onjo , Mack, Mrs. Stantek, Ellie, Eric, and Caroline. The setting took place in the classroom and most of the time in the boat. The conflict is  finding the word and being able to read those items locked in  a box to know where Sam really belongs. The conditions are rainy and a little sunny as said in the book.
The tone the author  was like being very serious. I felt pretty excited during reading this book. The moral is do what you want to do in life. The the theme is admiration. This book was first person because I read the words I, me, myself, mine. This story was organized by chronological order. Patricia Reilly Giff wrote this book to entertain I would rate this book a 10/10 because it was exciting and very intense.

Title: Booking a flight to space with travel insurance
Author: Kenneth Chang
Source: Newspaper
The topic of the article is: a flight to space
The main idea of the article is: Booking a flight to space with travel insurance (stated)
The authors purpose for writing this article is to inform us with a opinion he obviously is interested in which is booking a flight to space.
The authors perspective in this article is objective/subjective (biased) because he uses only his opinions of space travel and does not say anything negative about it.
The pattern of organization of this article is argument and support because he introduces the topic and gives details that would support it including other people who support it as well.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is to prove himself correct with putting some good supporting details.
The text features included in the article are: Using word with different font color this helped me by categorizing what is the most important to the least. Another text feature I saw was the other used bold font this helped when I skim and scanned because it gave me a good summary of the article.
This article is about a group of a lot of people want to make their first trip to space and they are doing many things to try to make this a dream come true it is also about how they will make travel insurance and they are overcoming hard obstacles to try to reach to their goals.
The significance of the article is that they are doing hard things to make this come true they are paying billions of $ and to show how much it cost is $200,000 a ticket.
What I learned from this article is that one day this will come true and people will actually fly to space easily without a problem because now it is a little hard to try to do that.
What I liked about the article is how the author names people who bought tickets and he talks about lots of them and tells you what they said in a interview or what he heard them saying in different occasions.
What I did not like about it was how the author just jumped right into the topic it was a little hard to understand he should of gave some back round information before the fact that he just went in the main idea.
Who should read this article are people who also want to go to space this will be just for them because they will love the topic of the article and will here some positive comment of different people and will understand the benefits of flying to space.
This article remind me of Ilan Ramon a famous jewish astronaut whose dream was to go to the moon s well as space.
This article reminds does not really remind me of any book I have read in the past.
This article remind me of the world because space is becoming a problem everybody wants to go their and are willing to do anything it takes to get their.

Readers journal # 19

Dear, Mrs. Zrihen
RJ#19
I have just finished reading the book CODE ORANGE BY Caroline B. Cooney. I think this book is good because I do not like science fiction that much but this one was coming along very good. I liked it because I love the city New York and it shows how he lives in New York and lastly I like learning things about viruses it comes up in my interest a lot.
A passage that I liked in the book was, “As Mitty enters the class he does not care about everything, no homework, no backpack, and no pencil to write with.”I picked this passage because it meant a lot to me if he went to my school he would have got a referral, detention, and or suspension isn’t that crazy.
Two strategies I used before reading were i first skim and scanned for text features and the second strategy was I read the synopsis on the back so I can get an overview of the book. Two strategies I used during reading was I stopped and compared one of the passages to a real life situation, and I also reread part I did not really understand. Two strategies I did after reading the book was I compared this book to a different book I read in the past, and I quizzed myself on the book to see if I understood it correctly.
The main character is MITTY the conflict was he finds some record on the weekend in his house and it leads him  to a huge situation. The authors purpose is to entertain us. The author did not take any sides in the book. The theme is important and  the mood was serious.
I would rate this book a 9 out of 10 because I just loved it especially I like the seriousness used in the book.

                              Sincerely, Bar Peretz
