Every Jew Has To Read This Jewish Book

Dear Ms. Zrihen,

12/13/11

I am really enjoying reading the book
,Every Jew has to read this Jewish book
by Mia Greenberg.  The genre is definitely Humor.  There is no story and all the plot
events that you see in a regular story it is just jokes all over the place their is also no main character nor a protagonist. The tone is very funny and hilarious the mood of the book is also really funny. A theme that appears in the book is a funny comedy. There is no moral.  The author’s purpose is to entertain people. His perspective is that you will have a laugh.

“What do jew do on shabbat, go to church.”  This was written on page 30.  I picked this passage because it shows that there are jokes.  The passage is significant to the story because it shows that it is a joke book.

I used several reading strategies throughout the book. Before reading, I did the 5 finger test, or check the vocabulary I did not understand. During reading I reread jokes I had problems understanding what they want me to know from that joke, and I also categorized the jokes from information categorized on each joke. After reading I picked the funniest joke and read it again, (I still laughed) I also recommended it to a couple of my friend because it was just very humorous.(I would recommend this book to anyone on planet Earth

Figurative language I saw in the book: personification, simile, oxymoron and some alliteration.

I would rate this book 10 stars because it was very funny and the sarcasm used in the book made me even laugh more than what I expected.

                                                          Sincerely,

Bar Peretz

Artemis Fowl

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,   rj # 16
11/28/11
I enjoyed every part of reading Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. The genre of this book is fantasy. The story takes place in random world. The main character of the story is Artemis. The main character is round and dynamic. The first thing that happens a boy tries to steal a painting. The main problem is it is in a high security bank. The tone or mood of the book is serious. A theme that appears in the book is that theft is not worth it. There is no moral is not to steal, because I'm not very far in.  From my point of view, I can see that the robber is well prepared. The author organized the story through a time order (so far).  The author’s purpose is to entertain people. His perspective is that in life, you should not take things from others.
I did not find any passage that was that meaningful to me in the book I only found one and I wrote about it in my last readers journal.
I used different reading strategies by all the circumstances when having the book. Before reading, I skimmed and scanned, and I flipped through the pages looking for text features. While reading, I would quiz myself on what I read after each story and re-read parts I didn’t understand. After reading, I still read question myself and go over it, and I discussed it with a family member who is reading the same book.
A response starter would be if I were the main character I would have not really made such a bad choice unlike Artemis.
I would rate this book a 10/10 because it amused me and was very adventurous not so many books are like that.
sincerely, B.P

Current Event 3

Current Event # 3
Title: Animal shelter’s behavior experts face life and death for animals
Author:  John Owens
Source: The Miami Herald
The topic of the article is facing animal behavior.
The main idea of the article is Animal Shelter’s behavior experts face life and death decisions for animals. The main idea is stated in the title.
The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform readers about how animal shelter owner specialists try different kind of methods and techniques to learn about an animal’s behavior and how to communicate with them without being attacked or possibly killed.
The author’s perspective in this article is objective because he states quotes that owners of animal control think about the kinds of animals they’re controlling and how they are sometimes to aggressive. The author also include dog’s point of view which is that humans also need to understand their culture and treat them kindly and not always think that the animal is always the one who does something wrong.
The pattern of organization of the article is cause and effect because in the article it shows the readers how control specialists do different kind of experiments on dogs to see their behavior when they try to play with the animal.(cause). As a result, owners figure out how to communicate with their animals and then know exactly how to warn a costumer when they adopt an animal.(effect)
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is to show at the beginning about a dog and how its family moved away and didn’t take him with them, and slowly why that family gave up on their pet which was because of its aggressive behavior for them to handle.
The text features included in the article are quotes that different animal controller said about animals to their own beliefs about it, and a real story about a dog named Yokie.
This article is about (a summary in your own words) an animal adoption for different kinds of animals like cats and dogs and how they are being controlled by experts.
The significance (importance) of this article is to teach families with an animal to know how to control their pet with the steps experts provided to the reader.
What I learned from this article is how to communicate with an animal in a friendly way without it hurting me or me hurting it.
What I liked about this article is that the author mentioned a bunch of quotes experts said about an animal control. I liked that part because it wasn’t just a regular person teaching the reader how to handle an animal’s behavior, but it was an expert who actually did many observations and experiments which is why it’s safe for a person to play with their pet and know how to control it correctly.
What I did not like about it is that there wasn’t any pictures of experts actually sitting down with the animal and testing their true reactions. I didn’t like that specific thing the author did because on most articles I read, there’s a lot of pictures showing the reader a visualized photo of what they are actually reading in the article. I wanted to see with my own eyes how experts manage to sit with the animal and observe their behavior.
Who should read this article and why: I think everyone should read this article even if they don’t have a pet so they will know step by step of how to communicate with an animal so if they have one, they will know how to treat it kindly and get used to their behavior, and even people who don’t have one can learn to do the same thing if they see a dog in the street and want to play with, learn the exact procedures experts include in this article.
This article reminds me of (text-to-self) because I used to hate dogs but now I like them a little.
(text-to-text): I read articles about the same topic that has to do with animals not having homes
(text-to-world): I can relate this to the world because their is lots of animals without homes and you see them on the street outside hungry and lonely.

Artemis Fowl

RJ #15       12/6/11      702
Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I am liking what I am reading for now in the book Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer I don't really like fantasy because of the fact and the bottom line of it its fake but this one book is coming alog fairly good I like it a little more than I would like just any random fantasy book.
The store takes place in an unknown land. The main character is Artemis Fowl.  He is round/dynamic kind of a character.  The plot started just like this, first a boy tries to steal a painting, thats all I read. The main problem is it is in a high security bank. The tone or mood of the book is not very I because, everything so far is in no way mysterious. A theme that appears in the book is that theft is not worth it. There is no moral so far in the book, because I'm not very far in.  From my point of view, I can see that the robber is well prepared. The author organized the story through a time order (so far).  The author’s purpose is to entertain people. His perspective is that in life, you should not take things from others.
"The pilots voice blared through the speaker. Get in here!" I picked this passage because even without reading the book you can see how badly the pilot is expressing his voice VERY emotionally.(pg. 152 last paragraph)
I used several reading strategies throughout the book. Before reading, I skimmed and scanned through this book, or I flipped through the pages looking for text features to see whether or not I would like this book.  Also, someone at the book fair recommended it to me.  While reading, I would quiz myself on what I read after each story and re-read parts I didn’t understand.  After reading, I am still reading this book.
Some Figurative language I saw in the book: personification, simile, oxymoron, metaphor,  alliteration.
I would rate this book 5 stars because at the end and middle of every page, there is interesting things that happen in the book.

P.S DO NOT COMMENT OR ELSE......
