Bud Not Buddy

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,            RJ#5 702 9/26/11
I have just currently finished reading the book BUD NOT BUDDY by Christopher Paul Curtis. This book is great for those who are interested in kids who there parents die and are send to orphanage. This is pretty sad although it teaches some good lessons. Before I started reading    the book I used two strategies I skim and scammed for main idea and some other text feature, also I read the synopsis which pulled my attention a lot at the beginning. During reading the book I reread parts I did not understand like some hard words that I looked for the definition in the dictionary, during reading I also summarized every chapter and gave it a name because in my book there were only the number of the chapters. After reading I counted how many text features I had throughout the book, after reading what I also did was I tested myself on the information to see if I understood all of it I wrote some index cards to help me test myself.
"The passage that interested me the most was on page 1 it said we were all standing in a line waiting for breakfast when one of the caseworkers came in and tap-tap-tapped down the line." This passage was very interesting to me because it first introduced me and gave me a hint to what the story will be about, it also dropped me into conclusions it took me some time to understand that sentence but after all I actually did because I reread it.
The pattern of organization of my book is time order. The main character in my book is Bud there is no really an antagonist in my book/story. The mood was pretty drama with all the things happening. The genre is historical fiction, it took me some time to figure that out. The conflict is Bud goes to live in an orphanage because his mother dies. The setting is in a couple places but it is technically in Michigan during the great depression. The authors purpose is to inform about this book. The authors perspective is to tell how this great depression made an impact on people.
There is no moral told in this story and I did not find any figurative language that came to my attention n the book. I would rate this book a 8 out of ten because it was not  the best book I have ever read but it was ok. I would recommend this book to kids in my class.

                                          Sincerely, Bar Peretz

Theodore The Abduction Boone

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,                                                                                                                          702 RJ #4
I have just finished reading THEODORE THE ABDUCTION BOONE by John Grisham it is a great book it was one of the best books I read over the couple years it is does a nice job explaining things I picked this book because it was a recommendation and also it said #1 international bestselling author so I knew the author would be great.I picked this book because it was a recommendation and also it said #1 international bestselling author so I knew the author would be great. I also picked this book because I read the synopsis and it attracted me like what happened to the girl? Did she run away? Did someone kidnap her? Were her parents mean to her? Does it have to do with Theodore? All these questions leave you clueless thats why I wanted to read it. I used 2 strategies before reading I skim and scanned for the literary elements, and I also looked for text features. Two strategies I used during was I reread what I did not understand, and I also summarized to myself some chapters. Two strategies I used after reading was I summarized the part of the book that I finished, and I also tested myself to see if I understood what I read.
"I am so sorry that it happened I wish we would just find her immediately Elsa told Theodore"
This passage is very meaningful to me because i felt really bad that she was like the popular girl in school everybody knew her so when people turn on the news they were like oh my g-d  she goes to my school even if she was not in the grade. She was the kind of girl everybody wants to hang out with loving, caring and looks good.
The genre of this book is realistic fiction that means it is based on a true story that could of happened. The characters are round dynamic the protagonist is Theo Boone, the antagonist is not exactly told, the setting is in Strattenburg, Pennsylvania that is where Theo and his friend lives. The setting to the story just right away leds to the conflict which is Theo's friend has went to sleep at night but in the middle of the night when her mom decided to check on her she was not at her bed. I did not get as farther than that in the book I will finish it next week. The tone is very suspending and the mood is pretty depressing. The pattern of organization is chronological order/time order I did not see any figurative language throughout what I read.
A response starter is what if the people knew what happened would it have solved the problem easier or even harder because it would all be considered having contact with her.
I rate this book a 10 out of 10 as I said it was one of the best books I read it made me draw conclusion until I had almost nothing to think about.
                                       Sincerely, Bar Peretz
