Dear Mrs.Zrihen, Readers journal #1 8/30/11
I just finished reading Is That A Dead Dog In Your Locker? By Todd Strasser it was a very interesting book it pulled my attention a lot because it had lot of parts where it was very hard to put the book down because you say to your self what is the next chapter about and the next, and the next. I picked this book also because considering the fact that it was recommended by one of my friend and also because by reading the title it made me feel like, Who is in the locker? What is in the locker? Does it smell in the locker? The title pulled my attention a lot. I used lots of strategies two before reading was I read the back of the book and I also skim and scanned for many text features and different types of literary elements. Two strategies I used during reading was go back and test myself on what I had misunderstandings, and another thing is summarized every chapter I read to myself to see if i understood it well enough. Two strategies I used after reading was tested myself on what I read and asked myself questions, and I counted how many text features I saw throughout the whole book.
“Wade tardy and his brother Leyton were brothers, everybody called them the tardy boys because they were tardy everyday to school there was not one day they did not arrive early to school even if they woke up early”
(page 2)
This passage was very meaningfully to me it gave me a first impression oh these kids don't like school and don't care about it they are late every single day. This passage also made me start to think about other people in my school that do that every day.
The genre of this book is a realistic fiction book the characters are not real but they can exist in real life. The characters a re very motive, there are about 4 foil character 2 protagonists and 1 antagonist. The setting is in a school and at home, regular weather and they are safe plain simple conditions the climax is the part where the story suddenly changes and the inciting incident was also a good part of the story to first pull your attention. The conflict is that a girl has a dog to take care of and she has to go to school where should she put the dog. The tone happy all around, authors purpose listen to your parents no matter what happens and you will succeed.
I wonder if weezy the cheezy dog likes the cheese he was feed every day three times a dayor if he just ate it because it was the only food he was feed with so he has no other hope of any food.
I would rate this book a 10 out of 10 it was terrific it made me want to read more and more I would want to read it again and again I recommend this book to anybody I promise you will like it.
Your favorite student,
Bar Peretz
